Y3W: 8 MONTHS OLD!!!

*hits floor*

8 months ago today I met one of my biggest blessing for the first time!!!

My daughter is 8 months old!  I can hardly believe it!!!

Time flies so fast!

Miss Makenzie is so busy now!

• She absolutely loves her Baby Einstein jumper!  She loves to jump in it so much that when she is sitting in our lap, she often bounces like she is still in the jumper.
• She is still enamored with her Daddy!  Grandma is in a close 2nd!
• She hasn't figured out how to crawl just yet but she looks SOO ready!  It's funny to see her try to figure out how to crawl while she is sitting up.  
• I'm starting to think she will bypass crawling and go straight for walking.I try and practice with her from time to time.
• She is still a pretty good sleeper.  She goes down around 7pm and wakes up at about 5am. (I wake her up at this time so that I can get her and I ready for the day.)
• Right now her favorite foods are Carrots, Peas and Sweet Potatoes.  I am soo happy she is a veggie lovin girl!
• She laughs in her sleep.  Hubby and I caught her a few days ago and it was the cutest thing.  I haven't seen her do that since she was a newborn but I fell in love all over again after seeing that.
• She loves bath time!  I come out needing a towel because she loves to splash so much.  She also likes to steal the rag from me and suck the water out of it.  (This story will be told at her Wedding)

Y3W: LET'S GO HAWKS!!!

Here we go again with Jenni From The Blog's Your Three Words.....

This evening, the 3 of us, along with a group of our friends, are headed to Phillips Arena for the Hawks vs. 76ers game!

A good friend of mine works for Phillips and scored us access to their company suite to enjoy the game!

Now I will admit, I’m more of a football (GO FALCONS) fan and a bandwagon basketball fan, but I think can find some unused shouting power to help cheer the Hawks on tonight with my family and friends.

If any of you are familiar with the sporting teams here in Atlanta, you know that we haven’t had the best of luck, doing much of anything over the years.  I remember how excited Atlanta was and how “different” the vibe in the city was when the Falcons went to the Super Bowl back in 1998.  Well now the Falcons are 9-2 (shameless taunt…hehe) and the city is getting closer and closer to that same vibe we had way back when. 

Right now the Hawks are 12-7 and the 76ers are 5-13 so I’m predicting a win tonight!

This will be Makenzie’s first attendance to a sporting event so I am very excited!  I wish my camera was better but I’ll make it work and post pictures of us at the game.

Happy Friday guys!  We made it to the weekend!!!  Woooo Hoooo!!

Y3W: Party Over Here!!!

I am so excited about this weekend!!

Hubby and I have been blessed a great group of friends.  Some we have know since we were younger, others we met while in college and beyond.  Some of those friends we see a whole lot more often than others.  This weekend we are going to re-connect with the friends we don't see as often.

A few weeks ago I was talking to one of my best friends and we both mentioned how it had been so long since we all hung out and had a good time like the "old days".  We decided to pick a date and make it mandatory that all of us keep that date open.  Well everyone kept their promise and come Saturday, we are all gonna re-connect.  Re-conneting sounds so boring but when we get together...it's anything but!

We have made some of the funniest memories together in the past and I'm sure this weekend will be no different.

You see, we have all been friends since forever and its generally hard to get us ALL together because of our schedules and hectic lives. While we haven't grown apart, its harder to keep friendships the same when new responsibilities come in the picture. I used to beat myself up about the fact that we didn't hang out as much as we used to but I had to remind myself that our friendships are going to continue to change and develop throughout the years and what matters most is that the love we all share remains the same. 

This weekend is our attempt to hang out and have a good time together like we used to before we officially became adults! (After college but before careers)

Wow...it's been 3 years since I graduated college.  Time sure does fly!!!

I'm an nearly old lady now, I hope I can keep up!

Y3W: Our Halloween Decision



This Friday and hopefully a lot more Friday's to come I'll be participating in "Your 3 Words", a weekly blog hop started by Jenni over at Jenni From The Blog.

Our Halloween Decision

The choice about whether to celebrate Halloween or not has always been a pretty easy decision for my Husband & I. 

We Don't.

We choose to partake in Fall Festival's or other celebrations not centered around ghosts, goblins, demons and tricks etc. 

Now just because we don't celebrate, we don't look down on anyone who chooses to get dressed up and go trick-o-treating, we just don't partake in the festivities ourselves.

The main reason we don't celebrate is that we feel like the day glorifies the things that our faith is opposed to.

Now while I don't proclaim to be perfect...I mean really, I'm faaar from it, the decision to skip Halloween was an easy one for us to make. 

Until we had a child.

You see for a few years as kids, My husband and I (me more so than him) both got dressed up and went door to door getting candy and enjoying the fun of the day.  I even remember getting dressed up at school and showing off what costume I came up with. I even remember one year my mom didn't want to be go out but she allowed me to pass out candy to other little trick-o-treaters. 

We meant no harm or foul by partaking in the activities of Halloween and honestly, part of me always battles with letting her celebrate for a year or two when she begins school. 

I do admit, I feel a little bit bad sometimes that my daughter won't get to experience that fun but she will still have fun during that time.  I guarantee it!

Instead of trick or treating or passing out candy, we attend the activities our church puts on every year for the kids.  They get to bob for apples, get their faces painted, roast marshmallows, play games, and just had a good time doing other activities.  We attended a few of these festivals as children (once our parents made the decision that we should not celebrate Halloween anymore) and we both remember them being a lot of fun as well. 

To us, it still provides a fun alternative for Makenzie to have a great time during this time of year and I think if we explain to her why her family doesn't celebrate Halloween, she will understand. (My Husband & I did and to be honest, it wasn't a big deal to either of us.  Hopefully she will feel the same.) 

I have even thought about starting a family tradition of taking her on hay rides and to pumpkin patches to really give a nice feel of the fun of autumn.

Either way, we as parents will ensure our daughter and future child(ren) will have a ball during the fall season with out having to celebrate Halloween.
